The Old Library

As well as serving as the Town Council offices, the Old Library in Knockhundred Row is available to hire!

When West Sussex County Council moved the library to the Grange Centre, MTC were keen that this iconic building was retained for the benefit of the community. We negotiated with WSCC to rent the building short term with a view to purchasing it later on.

The Town Council moved into the building in November 2014. Having been used as a library for many years, the building needs some work to become the community asset the Council wants it to be.

We have already refurbished the upstairs room to create an office for our Clerk and Administrative Assistant, and we have provided office space for our Rural Towns Co-ordinator.

extra-1 There is still a long way to go. There are bigger maintenance jobs to do and other more ambitious works that will have to wait until MTC is the owner of the building. This year's budget includes funds that will be set aside towards the eventual purchase of the building. This will be repeated next year to give us a good base on which to start fundraising activities.

The building needs to start generating some income to help with running costs and MTC is keen that it is made available for individuals and community groups to hire. We continue to investigate other ideas to generate income, for example we will be promoting the building as a location for film or TV shoots. The Meeting Room and Main Hall are available to hire. Local clubs, groups and societies might find it a great, central place to meet.
