Midhurst Street Party Christmas 2016

Midhurst's 2016 Christmas Street Party was a resounding success. Marco Frankland, MC for the evening, called the countdown for Lord and Lady Cowdray to switch on the lights of the magnificent Market Square Christmas tree.

This was enhanced by a snow machine which generated snow over the Market Square. Children from Midhurst, Easebourne and Conifers Primary Schools sang their little hearts out. Midhurst Musical Mayhem was there too, and Gracie Spooner and Martha Buchanan. The South Downs Ukulele Orchestra, Ed Goodale, and Shooting Stars continued the entertainment. The headline act, Those Restless Knights, closed the evening and the crowd was reluctant to let them go. The Parish Church hosted a more reflective candle-lit atmosphere where the choir sang in memory of loved ones.

extra-1 In the street stilt walkers, a Glow Artist and Punch & Judy entertained the crowd.  Fabulous food added to the wonderful party atmosphere, spilling out into North Street where caf├ęs and restaurants tempted passers-by.  West Street heaved and Martyn Chevis, with help from Sharon from the Notebook and Annie from Seventh Heaven, arranged hundreds of gifts for Santa to give the children in his grotto.  Glow sticks, donated by The Upholsterer were handed out by marshals on the road closure barriers and everyone had loads of fun.
